Buxton and the Peak District

Buxton is known as the” Cultural Capital” of the Peak District, with the magnificent Opera House being the venue for a wide variety of music, dance and theatre events during the year. Most notably, in the Summer the Opera House plays host to the prestigious Buxton Festival and Festival Fringe and  the Buxton Literary  Festival.

As a spa town, Buxton has been a popular holiday resort for centuries and the highly regarded  Spa complex in the University of Derby Dome (formerly the Devonshire Hospital) has done much to re-instate this part of the town’s heritage. Please ask for details of spa packages.

The town is also blessed with magnificent architecture, a wealth of shops, and a thriving Arts scene.

Based at the heart of the Peak District and situated just over a thousand feet up in the Derbyshire hills, Buxton is the ideal base for climbing, caving, mountain biking, walking, bird watching, horse riding, gliding and much more.

We are also close to many of the region’s top visitor attractions including Chatsworth House and the show caves at Castleton.

We are happy to provide you with walking maps and guide books and advise you on our favourite walks, restaurants and pubs and excursions.
